Here’s how to make a family history game.

Dear Detective,

Congratulations! You’ve completed all of the Family Mystery invitations and have become a superstar story sleuth!

Here’s a family story game you can use to celebrate!

Getting Ready

  1. Think of four types of stories, like Funny, Childhood, Spiritual, or Vacations. Write each category on a piece of paper and tape the papers on a wall.
  2. Then think of four family stories to go with each category. Write a short sentence about the story on one side of a paper. On the other side, write 100, 200, 300, or 400.
  3. Tape the papers, number side out, under each category.
  4. Finally, come up with two clues for each story that will help people guess what the story is. Write them on a paper that only you will see.

How to Play

  1. Since you know the answers, you’ll be the scorekeeper and reader. Divide everyone else into two teams.
  2. The first team picks a category and number, like “Funny, for 200.”
  3. Read the first clue for that story out loud. If they can tell the story that matches the clue, they get the points!
  4. If they don’t know the story, read the second clue out loud.
  5. If they give the answer, they get half the points. If they don’t know the answer, the other team gets a chance to answer for half the points.
  6. Then the next team picks a clue and plays. After all the clues are picked, the team with the most points wins!

Even though the mystery files have come to an end, we hope you’ll never stop being curious about your family’s heritage and history! We can draw strength from knowing our ancestors and the brave things they did.

One day, someone might be drawing strength from the stories they read about your life!
