- In 1823, during the night of September 21, the angel Moroni visited Joseph Smith in his bedroom five times and told him about the gold plates.
- Four years later, on Sept. 22, 1827, Joseph received those ancient records from Moroni and began translating the Book of Mormon.
- In September 2000, Church membership reached more than 11 million people—with more non-English-speaking members than English-speaking ones! The work that Joseph Smith did all those years ago continues to bless the world today.
