Remember the story of Samuel? He was the only Lamanite prophet named in the Book of Mormon, and was protected from stones and arrows while preaching from a wall.
Before all of that happened, he tried teaching in Zarahemla for many days without success. Then the Nephites chased him out of town.
He sadly thought his mission was over. But while heading home, the Lord told him to turn around! He was told to say “whatsoever things should come into his heart” (Helaman 13:3).
In other words, the Lord had another message—a much more forceful one—for Samuel to share. The prophet had to be willing to speak and then trust the Lord for that message to appear.
There are at least two lessons here:
- Always follow the Spirit!
- Do everything you can to do what the Lord asks of you. Also, don’t be surprised if He asks you to do more than you originally thought you could!
What else can you learn from the story of Samuel the Lamanite?
