Holi is a Hindu festival sometimes called the Festival of Colors. It welcomes spring and represents the victory of good over evil. This year, Holi is on March 18.
Here’s what happens:
- Celebrations start the night before with prayers and other religious rituals.
- The next morning is the color festival, where people throw water and colored chalk on each other.
- There’s music and dancing!
- Afterward people share food and visit friends and family.
For Hindus, Holi is a day to forgive others and make amends for past wrongs. That’s why it’s at the start of spring; spring is a symbol of rebirth.
Members of our Church may not celebrate Holi, but it’s never a bad idea to think about forgiveness and reconnect with family. How does Jesus Christ offer us rebirth?
