Can you imagine fighting a 10-foot-tall giant dressed in heavy armor and carrying deadly weapons? That’s what happened to David in the Old Testament.
Sometimes your trials and temptations might seem like Goliaths. You might feel a bit helpless to overcome them. But, like young David, you can find hope because of what you know about God.
Here are three truths that can help us defeat our Goliaths. Perhaps you could try repeating them every morning this month!
- “The Lord is with me!” You can always rely on strength from the Lord if you turn to Him. Invite His influence into your life through prayer, scripture study, and other habits of worship. He won’t let you down!
- “God’s power is greater than anything I’m facing!” When Goliath mocked and threatened his opponent, David said, “Thou comest to me with a sword, and with a spear, and with a shield: but I come to thee in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel” (1 Samuel 17:45).
- “With God, I can do the impossible!” Imagine yourself overcoming your current challenge. Picture yourself winning! David’s battle may have seemed impossible to everyone else, but he knew his strength came from God. You can rely on that knowledge too.
Your trials may not get smaller, but your strength to overcome them can grow far greater. Just remember what you already know about God!
