Since his conversion, the Apostle Paul had worked tirelessly to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. He had worn out his life in the Lord’s service. Now, as he wrote to his friend Timothy, he knew his mortal journey was almost through.
And Paul was ready. He wrote:
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing” (2 Timothy 4:7–8).
Paul had faith in the Lord’s promises. He wasn’t afraid to die because he knew he’d done his best and had repented when necessary. He knew he was saved by the Atonement of Jesus Christ.
You’re young and hopefully still have many years before your time on earth is over. But what if the Lord called you home today? Would you be ready? Could you say that you had done your best and “fought a good fight”?
Remember, your “best” doesn’t have to be as exciting or dramatic as Paul’s was. God isn’t comparing you to anyone else. He only wants you to do the best you can in your circumstances. And if you are doing your best—if you’re making progress (however slow) and making corrections when necessary (however frequent)—then you have nothing to worry about!
