Always be ready to explain why you believe!

Has anyone ever asked why you’re a member of the Church? Or why you believe in Jesus Christ?

It’s bound to happen if it hasn’t already. If someone is happy being a member of another church, or content having no church at all, it’s natural for them to wonder.

And if someone put you on the spot, you might not immediately have an answer! But sharing the gospel means more than telling people about our beliefs and practices. We also need to help them understand how those beliefs and practices help us.

The Apostle Peter suggested that the Saints think about this question ahead of time so that they’d “be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you” (1 Peter 3:15).

So let’s take Peter’s advice. Think about it now so you have an answer ready.

  • Why do you believe in God?
  • Why do you go to church and strive to live the gospel?
  • How does being a disciple of Christ help you day-to-day?

Think about these questions. Ask Heavenly Father to help you identify some specific things you can point to as reasons for “the hope that is in you.” You might even discuss the subject in a church class or quorum and get ideas from others. There might be a quiz someday, and you’ll want to have studied!

Journal Your Answers

Ponder the questions above and then add your answers to your journal.
