These greenhouses help people help themselves.

Here’s more about this growing success!

People in the Eastern European country of Bosnia and Herzegovina have struggled with unemployment for the last couple of decades.

More than a quarter of the country’s population was unemployed in 2014 when the Church started partnering with a charity called Muslim Aid to provide some help. That help took the form of greenhouses—at first, just 20 of them. But now there have been more than 2,720 given to families in the area!

Greenhouses protect crops from bad weather, essentially tripling the length of the growing season and doubling the harvest. It’s a huge help to families to be able to grow their own food to feed themselves (and to sell whatever is left over).

Not everybody knows how to be a farmer, so along with the greenhouses comes training and support. The Church and Muslim Aid really want people to succeed.

And they are succeeding! About 90% of the greenhouses that have been donated were still being used five years after they were built.

How can you help? Projects like this come from the Church’s humanitarian aid fund, which you can donate to in the same place that you pay tithing.

Check out the Church’s “Annual Report on Caring for Those in Need” to learn more about what members are doing to make the world a better place. Or visit Caring.ChurchofJesusChrist.org to learn more about how you can help your community.

Let’s keep up the good work! Your compassion makes a difference.

Give It a Grow

Ever tried to grow something to eat later? Like actual plants in dirt? Maybe this would be a good time to try! Talk to a parent or leader for help getting started.
