How Does the Church Help?
The Church seeks to help all achieve self-reliance. However, it is often difficult to focus on long-term goals if your urgent needs are not being met. To that end, the Church works to provide immediate relief to those in need while also addressing root issues of hunger wherever it is found.
Addressing Immediate Needs
The Church’s farms, orchards, and other facilities produce food that is distributed to 123 bishops’ storehouse locations—as well as hundreds of community food banks across North America. The Church also works with trusted organizations to distribute food to those in need around the world.
Child Nutrition
Proper nutrition in the early years of life is vital to help children grow and thrive. The Church operates its own
child nutrition efforts to help Church members’ children and others in the community that need help.
Long-Term Food Security
The Church facilitates humanitarian projects all over the world to address root issues of hunger. These efforts help to improve agricultural sustainability, food access, and other causes of hunger and malnutrition.
Preparedness
Members of the Church practice principles of self-reliance whenever possible, often storing food for times of difficulty. This practice helps many Church members to better care for themselves in the event of an emergency, which allows them to better help others.
