South Pacific Area Conference Reports

During sixteen days in February and March, the lives of Church members in the South Pacific were enriched as they met with President Spencer W. Kimball and other General Authorities in area conferences in Samoa, New Zealand, Fiji, Tonga, Tahiti, and in Australia—Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Accompanying President Kimball were President N. Eldon Tanner, first counselor in the First Presidency; Elder Bruce R. McConkie and Elder David B. Haight of the Council of the Twelve; Elder Marion D. Hanks, Elder William H. Bennett, Elder Robert L. Simpson, and Elder Robert D. Hales, Assistants to the Council of the Twelve; Bishop Victor L. Brown, Presiding Bishop of the Church; and Elder Loren C. Dunn of the First Council of the Seventy.

Regional Representatives of the Twelve, stake presidents, mission presidents, and other local priesthood leaders attended their respective conferences.

In this issue of the Ensign are reports from the Samoa, New Zealand, and Fiji area conferences. These reports were prepared with the assistance of Tufuga S. Atoa, Apia, Western Samoa; Iain McKay, Tawa, New Zealand; and Joseph N. T. Sokia, Suva, Fiji.

Reports on the other area conferences will be carried in the May Ensign.

The cultural presentation included many dance numbers similar to the one here.

Palm leaf shelters gave some protection from the hot sun and rain showers.
