Making Sense of the Book of Revelation

Many find the book of Revelation difficult to grasp, but God intended it for us and will help us as we strive to understand and apply its teachings. The following can aid you as you go forward with your study of Revelation.

  • “Symbol Sketch-and-Guess.” This family-friendly activity from the Ensign can help your family better understand the many key symbols in the book of Revelation.

Revelation 2–3

Overcoming Challenges

Speaking to His disciples, the Savior said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but … I have overcome the world” (John 16:33). These chapters of Revelation affirm that with the Savior’s help, we can overcome our earthly challenges.

  • “Face Life’s Tests with the Savior’s Help.” In this devotional excerpt in the New Era, President Henry B. Eyring, Second Counselor in the First Presidency, shares how the Savior helps us face life’s challenges.

  • “My Bad Back.” In this New Era story, a young man with a painful medical condition shares how remembering Jesus Christ’s Atonement helps him be grateful rather than complain.

  • “Jesus at My Bedside.” In this story from the Friend, a boy who is afraid of the dark is comforted by thinking about the Savior. Includes a bookmark to cut out and color.

Activities

  • “Journal Page.” Invite family members to use this journal guide to help them recognize when and how Heavenly Father has helped them overcome challenges. (From the Friend.)

Revelation 5

The Savior’s Essential Role

Only Jesus Christ could fulfill the Father’s plan and make salvation possible for each of us. Learning about Him can help build our faith not only in Jesus Christ as our Savior but also in the Father’s great plan of redemption.

  • “The Atonement of Jesus Christ.” In this Ensign article, Elder Jeffrey R. Holland of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles explains the need for an atonement and identifies three reasons why only the Savior could fulfill this need.

  • “Answering Questions about the Plan of Salvation.” This article from the New Era contains short answers you can give when people ask you about the plan of salvation, including “What is the role of Jesus Christ?”

  • “Why Is Jesus Christ So Important to Us?” President Dallin H. Oaks, then a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles, answers this question in a message adapted for the Friend.
