“President Joseph Fielding Smith Died,” Friend, Sept. 1972, 11
President Joseph Fielding Smith Died
Children of the Church throughout the world lost a good friend when President Joseph Fielding Smith died Sunday, July 2, 1972. Readers of the Friend will remember the poems and pictures about animals that President Smith created, as well as the story about his quiet kindness to a little boy on Temple Square, that were published in this magazine.
Harold B. Lee has been ordained and set apart as the eleventh president of the Church. His counselors are N. Eldon Tanner and Marion G. Romney.
While children will never forget President Smith, they and members of the Friend staff join in sustaining and praying for President Lee and his counselors. These great men love children, and their love for the Church will make them very special and treasured friends.
