“The Feast,” Friend, Mar. 1973, 20
The Feast
1. Many people went out to greet Jesus as He rode a donkey into Jerusalem for the Feast of the Passover. They cried, “Hosanna! Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord!”
2. On the first day of the feast, Jesus sat down to eat with the twelve apostles. He blessed and broke bread, saying, “Take and eat. This is my body which is given for you. This do in remembrance of me.”
3. Then Jesus took a cup and, when He had given thanks, said, “Drink of this cup, for this is the new testament in my blood which is shed for the remission of sins.”
4. After they had eaten and sung a hymn, the group went to the Mount of Olives. Jesus told the apostles that He would soon be killed, but on the third day would arise.
5. Then Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a place called Gethsemane. The Savior asked them to watch while He went alone to pray.
6. “O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt,” Jesus prayed.
7. Jesus returned and found Peter, James, and John asleep. He awoke them and again asked them to watch and pray. Jesus went again to pray. He returned and found the apostles asleep once more. Jesus awoke them and asked them to remain awake.
8. Jesus went a third time to pray. He prayed so earnestly that sweat like great drops of blood fell to the ground. An angel appeared from heaven and gave Him strength.
9. When Jesus returned, He found the apostles asleep again. “Sleep on now,” Jesus said, “for, behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.”
10. And while Jesus spoke, Judas, one of the twelve, came near with many men. “Hail, master,” Judas said as he kissed Jesus. Then the wicked men took Jesus away.
