Candle Holder

2 cups flour

1 cup salt

1 cup water

Combine salt and flour in large bowl. Add water slowly, mixing as you pour. Knead until dough is smooth (about eight minutes). Store in plastic bag.

  1. Make ball of aluminum foil about the size of a baseball. Press candle firmly into the top of the foil ball until it stands by itself.

  2. Roll part of dough on piece of wax paper until 1/4″ thick. Use a spade or leaf-shape cookie cutter to cut out about a dozen shapes.

  3. Add a vein-like appearance to each leaf by making light indentations with blade of butter knife.

  4. Apply leaves around the base of candle and aluminum foil ball, overlapping as you go. Moisten edges with water to hold in place.

  5. Roll out two long pieces of dough for the top. Braid or twist together, moisten with water, and attach. Add smaller leaves and stars. Remove candle, and bake at 325° forabout 30 minutes or until light brown. Allow to cool, then varnish.

  6. The extra dough will make attractive decorations for the tree by using different Christmas cookie cutter shapes.
