“The Old Doll,” Friend, July 1984, inside front cover
The Old Doll
My grandmother has a doll so old
It has a china head
With painted hair of shiny black
And dress of velvety red.
It has some tiny earrings
And a straw hat with a feather.
But what I like the very best
Are the fingers made of leather.
Sometimes I get to hold the doll,
And I wonder when I do
About the children long ago
Who loved this old doll too.
