The Whole Armor of God
(Ephesians 6:13–17)*
Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil (Eph. 6:11).
To make armor, you will need: measuring tape, pencil, paper plates, lightweight cardboard, scissors, felt-tip pen(s), paper punch, stapler, brass fasteners or string, and short, narrow cardboard tube.
Note: Make all labels and decorations (such as stickers or homemade family crest) after items are cut and before they are stapled or tied.
Girdle of Truth
Measure child’s waist, then cut cardboard a bit longer so that it will overlap for fastening. Girdle can be straight or shaped (see illustration, photo). Punch hole at each end, and fasten at child’s waist in back with brass fastener or string.
Breastplate of Righteousness
Measure child from front to back of shoulder, and cut two cardboard strips that length. Staple one end of each strip to front breastplate (paper plate) and other end to back one. Use string or additional strips to secure plates at child’s sides.
Shield of Faith
Cut two strips of cardboard long enough for child to slip hand and forearm under when strip is stapled to back (concave side) of paper plate or shield made from cardboard.
Sword of the Spirit
From cardboard, cut sword shape just a bit shorter than child’s arm length. Staple tube to hilt for stability.
Preparation-of-the-Gospel-of-Peace Shoes
Using paper plate for each shoe, cut U-shape in it big enough so that edges can be secured with brass fastener or string at back of child’s heel. Sides of plate will probably need to be trimmed.
Helmet of Salvation
Cut paper plate in half, leaving small piece in middle to fit over child’s nose. Measure, cut, and staple strip of cardboard to each side of helmet (or punch holes and use string) for band around back of child’s head.
