Sharing Time:

Testify of Jesus Christ

And now, behold, I will testify unto you of myself that these things are true (Alma 34:8).

The Bible is a record of prophets bearing witness, or testifying, of Jesus Christ. The Old Testament in the Bible was written before Jesus was born. The New Testament tells about Jesus’ life and was written after He lived on the earth. These testaments give evidence that Jesus is the Son of God and that He is our Savior.

The Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ. It contains the testimonies of prophets who lived on the American Continent. Moroni, the last Book of Mormon prophet, wrote that everyone who reads these words can know for himself if the scriptures are true. You can have your own testimony of Jesus Christ. Then you can testify of Him to others.

  2. Match each prophet’s picture to his testimony, and glue in place. Hint: Look up references in bold type, and read one incident from prophet’s life that increased his testimony.

  3. In blank space draw yourself and write your testimony. Think of experiences that you have had when you have felt the Holy Ghost bear witness to you that what you were doing was right or that what you were hearing was true.

  4. Share your testimony with your family.

[Testimonies]

a. “Another sign I give unto you, yea, a sign of his death.

“… He surely must die that salvation may come … to bring to pass the resurrection of the dead, that thereby men may be brought into the presence of the Lord.” (Hel. 14:14–15.)

Read Helaman 13–15 [Hel. 13–15]

b. “The Lord our God did visit us with assurances that he would deliver us; yea, insomuch that he did speak peace to our souls, and did grant unto us great faith, and did cause us that we should hope for our deliverance in him” (Alma 58:11).

Read Alma 56:46–56.

c. “The honest seeker after truth can gain the testimony that Jesus is the Christ as he prayerfully ponders the inspired words of the Book of Mormon” (Ensign, November 1987, page 83).

Listen to general conference in April to hear more from this prophet.

d. “He is the light and the life of the world; yea, a light that is endless, that can never be darkened; yea, and also a life which is endless, that there can be no more death” (Mosiah 16:9).

Read Mosiah 17.

e. “I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two Personages, and they did … speak to me; and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true; … For I had seen a vision; I knew it, and I knew that God knew it, and I could not deny it.” (JS—H 1:25.)

Read Joseph Smith—History 1:1–20 [JS—H 1:1–20].

f. “I will boast of my God, for in his strength I can do all things; yea, behold, many mighty miracles we have wrought in this land, for which we will praise his name forever” (Alma 26:12).

Read Alma 17:19–39.

g. “For, said he, I have repented of my sins, and have been redeemed of the Lord; behold I am born of the Spirit” (Mosiah 27:24).

Read Mosiah 27:8–32.

Sharing Time Ideas

  1. Discuss the steps that can help someone gain a testimony: (1) desire, (2) study, (3) practice a principle, and (4) pray in faith. (See Mormon Doctrine, pages 709–710.)

  2. After reading the appropriate scripture references, role-play the stories and events involved in each prophet’s life. Point out that some heard a voice, had a vision, were visited by an angel, or saw Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Some prophesied, and their prophecy was fulfilled; some were made strong, and others were protected because of their faith in Christ. Yet others were killed because of their testimonies. Not everyone will have these kinds of experiences, but everyone can know that the gospel is true.

  3. Sing “Did Jesus Really Live Again?” (Supplement to More Songs for Children, page 6), “I Believe in Christ” (Hymns, no. 134), “Listen, Listen” (Sing with Me, B-3).

  4. Tell how you gained your testimony.
