“My Big Parade,” Friend, July 1988, 16–17
My Big Parade
My mama said, “Let’s take a walk,
Just us and Baby Sal.”
But Billie had to come along,
For he was my best pal.
Then Skipper wagged his tail real fast—
He wanted to come too.
We couldn’t forget Kitty Cat,
Or she would cry, “Mew, mew.”
We had to take my teddy bear
And my clown doll, of course.
And then I’d lead my big parade
Upon my hobbyhorse.
But after I had got them all,
Mom put me on her lap.
“You took too long to find these things—
It’s time to take your nap!”
