“Homework,” Friend, Sept. 1991, 27
Homework
Homework is headwork,
The-kind-we-all-dread work—
Papers the teacher sends home
in your pack.
Homework is hard work,
Could even be yard work—
Bushels of leaves gathered up
in a sack.
Homework is handwork,
It’s do-what-Mom-planned work—
Tidy your closet, set shoes
in a stack.
Homework is heart work,
It’s love’s truest artwork—
Give me a hug, and I’ll give
you one back.
