Father’s Day Bow-Tie Dinner Napkins

To honor your dad, make him a special dinner (see Kitchen Krafts, page 22), and create these bow-tie napkins. To make them, you will need: napkins, a ruler, scissors, construction paper that matches the napkins, a pen, and tape.

  1. Cut a strip of paper 1″ x 4″ (2.5 cm x 10 cm).

  2. Write Happy Father’s Day! on one side of the paper strip, then set it aside.

  3. If the napkin is unfolded, fold it in half to form a rectangle, then in half again to form a square (see illustration).

  4. Squeeze the napkin in the middle, wrap the paper strip around it with the greeting facing inward, and tape the strip in place (see illustration). Fan the edges of the napkin out to resemble a bow tie. Repeat steps 1–4 for each napkin.

  5. Place a finished napkin in the center of each empty plate. Tell family members to remove the paper bands from their napkins to read the message and use the napkin.
