They Spoke to Us
Report from the 165th Semiannual General Conference, September 30–October 1, 1995
President Gordon B. Hinckley: We are all of one great family. We are sons and daughters of God. We are engaged in the service of His Beloved Son. He is our Redeemer and our Savior, and a testimony of this truth burns within our hearts. Each is entitled to such a testimony of this work.
President Thomas S. Monson, First Counselor in the First Presidency: In a very real way [the Savior] visits us, each one, with His teachings. He brings cheer and inspires goodness. He gave His precious life that the grave would be deprived of its victory, that death would lose its sting, that life eternal would be our gift.
President James E. Faust, Second Counselor in the First Presidency: The Lord has a great work for each of us to do. You may wonder how this can be. You may feel there is nothing special or superior about you or your ability . … The Lord can do remarkable miracles with a person of ordinary ability who is humble, faithful, and diligent in serving the Lord and seeks to improve himself.
Elder Richard G. Scott of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: Your Father in Heaven and His Holy Son … have given you the plan of happiness. As you understand and follow it, happiness will be your blessing . … I testify that you have a Heavenly Father who loves you. I witness that the Savior gave His life for your happiness.
Elder Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: A loving Father in Heaven has sent his sons and daughters here to mortality to gain experience and be tested . … Through priesthood power, we can receive the gift of the Holy Ghost to lead us to truth, testimony, and revelation.
Elder Lynn A. Mickelsen of the Seventy: Prepare … children to take upon themselves the name of Christ through the covenant of baptism. When we make this covenant we become known as His children and promise to keep His commandments.
Elder Hans B. Ringger, emeritus member of the Seventy: I testify to you that Joseph Smith saw the Father and the Son. They are real. Jesus is risen. He is our Christ and Savior. He is the son of the living God. This knowledge is my faith, my testimony, and my life.
Elder Ted E. Brewerton, emeritus member of the Seventy: As surely as the sun rises, God lives, as does his Almighty Son. As surely as the sun rises daily, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is his.
Sister Janette Hales Beckham, General President of the Young Women: God has given each of us power—the power to act, to choose, to serve, to love, and to accomplish much good.
