Meet Elder Dallin H. Oaks
Elder Oaks and his younger brother and sister were raised by their mother after their father died.
After his father died, his mother became ill. Dallin was lonely and sad and didn’t do very well in school. That changed when his wonderful fifth-grade teacher, Pearl Shaffer, helped him to learn and have confidence.
In high school he played basketball and football.
He married June Dixon, and they had six children. June died of cancer, and later, he married Kristen McMain.
Before he became an Apostle, he was a law professor, the president of Brigham Young University, and then a judge.
What is an Apostle?
When Jesus was on the earth, He called 12 men to be His special helpers and witnesses. They were called Apostles. He has called Apostles to be His special helpers and witnesses today. They testify of Jesus Christ to the whole world. Elder Oaks is an Apostle.
