A Chat with Alan about the Articles of Faith
Alan is from Málaga, Spain. We asked him some questions about how he learned the Articles of Faith.
Tell us about yourself.
I’m eight years old. When I grow up, I want to become a famous scientist. My favorite color is orange, and my favorite food is the tortillas de patatas (Spanish omelets) my grandmother makes.
How did you learn the Articles of Faith?
I started learning them in Primary. We sang songs to help us memorize them. Sometimes our teachers wrote them on the board and erased some words. We also drew pictures to explain what each Article of Faith meant.
I also practiced saying them with my family in the car on the way to school. I’m helping my little sister, Maia, learn them too. She already knows the first six!
Which Article of Faith is your favorite?
I like number nine. “We believe all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.” It teaches that Heavenly Father has more things for us to learn little by little.
How has knowing the Articles of Faith helped you?
One day at school, my friend Sophia asked me what I believed in and if I belonged to any religion. I remembered the first Article of Faith, which says, “We believe in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.” So I shared that with her.
I also told her that I was a Christian and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She listened to me and understood what I shared with her.
How did your experience make you feel?
I felt very good because I knew that I had been brave to share my beliefs with my friend. Because of my hard work to learn the Articles of Faith, I was able to share the gospel and know what to say.
