Alma’s People Escape
One day while Alma’s people were working in their fields, an army of Lamanites was in the borders of their land. Mosiah 23:25
The Nephites were frightened and ran into the city for safety. Alma told them to remember God, and God would help them. Alma and his people prayed for help. Mosiah 23:26–28
The Lord softened the hearts of the Lamanite army. They came into the city, but they spared the Nephites. The army had been lost in the wilderness, trying to find Limhi’s people. Mosiah 23:29–30
The Lamanites promised Alma that they would not bother his people if he would tell them how to get back to the land of Nephi. Alma showed them the way. Mosiah 23:36
But the Lamanites did not keep their promise. They put guards around the land, and Alma and his people were no longer free. Mosiah 23:37
Amulon was a Nephite and had been a wicked priest of King Noah. The Lamanite King made Amulon a ruler over Alma’s people. He persecuted Alma’s people and made them work very hard. Mosiah 23:39; Mosiah 24:8–9
Alma and his people prayed for help. Amulon said that anyone who prayed would be killed. The people prayed in their hearts so that the guards would not hear them. Mosiah 24:10–12
God heard their prayers and made them stronger so that their hard work was easier. The people were cheerful and patient. Mosiah 24:15
The Lord was pleased that the people were faithful, and he told Alma that he would help them escape from the Lamanites. Mosiah 24:16–17
During the night the people gathered their food and animals. The next morning the Lord made the Lamanites sleep while Alma and his people left the city. Mosiah 24:18–20
Alma’s people thanked God for his help. After traveling for twelve days, they came to the land of Zarahemla, where King Mosiah and his people welcomed them. Mosiah 24:21–25
