Volume 17, Number 10

On the cover: In Israel, a land of conflicting voices, the music of the Tabernacle Choir was as one voice sounding the anthem of peace. Music director Jerold D. Ottley conducts the choir at the Garden Tomb. See “One Voice,” page 10. Cover photography by David Gaunt and Scott Knudsen.

Back cover: As 1992 came to a close and a new year began, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir made a first-time visit to Israel. In addition to a full concert schedule, the choir also filmed an Easter television special at a number of traditional Christian sites including the secluded Garden Tomb, where the body of the crucified Savior may have been laid to rest. See “One Voice,” page 10.

Inside back cover: The Lord’s Appearance to Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery in the Kirtland Temple, 3 April 1836, by Theodore Gorka. After kneeling in “solemn and silent prayer” in the Kirtland Temple, the Prophet Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdery witnessed a vision of the Lord “standing upon the breastwork of the pulpit. … His countenance shone above the brightness of the sun; and his voice was as the sound of the rushing of great waters.” The Lord accepted the newly built temple as his “holy house.” (See D&C 110:1–10.)
