1 At the command of the Lord, I left Jerusalem with my wife and four sons and fled into the wilderness. One morning when I awoke, I found a brass ball by the door of my tent. This Liahona guided us in our travels through the wilderness, across the ocean, and into the promised land. (See 1 Ne. 2:1–5; 1 Ne. 16:10, 28; 1 Ne. 18:2, 8, 12, 21–23; 2 Ne. 5:6, 12; Alma 37:38–40.)

2 I went back to Jerusalem with my three older brothers to get the brass plates. Although my brothers were afraid, I knew that the Lord would provide a way for us to do what he had commanded. (See 1 Ne. 3:1–7, 9; 1 Ne. 4:6–38.)

3 When I was 15 years old, I was visited by the Lord. I became general of the Nephite army until the people became so wicked that I refused to serve any longer. I made a record of the things I saw and heard and abridged the large plates of Nephi. (See W of M 1:3; Morm. 1:1, 15; Morm. 2:1–2; Morm. 3:11.)

4 I became king after my father’s death. I delivered my final address to my people from a high tower so that everyone could hear the words the Lord had given me. (See Omni 1:23; Mosiah 1:9–10; Mosiah 2:1, 6–7.)

5 I led 2,000 young men to war against the Lamanites. We won the battle, and not one of these young men lost his life. (See Alma 56:1–5, 49–56.)

6 I stood on a wall and told the people about the signs of Christ’s birth and death. The wicked Nephites would not believe me, and they tried to kill me but could not. (See Hel. 13:1–4; Hel. 16:1–2.)

7 My brother and I and our families and friends did not have our language confounded at the Tower of Babel. We were told to prepare barges for crossing the ocean. I saw the finger of the Lord touch stones to provide light for our journey, and then Jesus Christ appeared and taught me many important truths. (See Ether 1:33–42; Ether 2:6, 16–25; Ether 3.)

8 I led a party of men from Zarahemla to the land of Lehi-Nephi. I was taken before King Limhi, the leader of the people, and he showed me 24 gold plates. I took them to King Mosiah who translated them. (See Mosiah 7:1–3, 7–9; Mosiah 8:6–9, 13–14; Mosiah 28:10–13.)

9 My father did the work of the Lord, but my friends and I were unbelievers. We persecuted members of the Church until one day an angel appeared to us. Afterward we served as missionaries and taught many people the gospel. (See Mosiah 26:15–17; Mosiah 27:8–17, 32–37.)

10 I received the records of my people from my father. I made the final entry on the plates, then buried them in the Hill Cumorah. On 22 September 1827, I delivered these plates to Joseph Smith. (See W of M 1:1; Morm. 6:6; Morm. 8:13–14; JS—H 1:30, 33–34, 59.)
