Affordable Online Tertiary Education Now Open to All
Brigham Young University-Idaho (BYU-I), is a private university owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Many years ago, the presidency of the Church and university, in a bid to offer affordable tertiary education to young members across the world, introduced a program called Pathway. Pathway is now PathwayConnect. Previously, it was only offered to members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. However, it is now accessible to nonmember friends and family of church members.
So how does PathwayConnect work? PathwayConnect allows you to bypass the Statistical Aptitude Tests (SAT’s) by taking a yearlong (3 semester) program, consisting of three courses: lifelong skills, mathematics and English. The credits earned will then qualify you for matriculation to an online certificate or degree program at BYU-Idaho for the same low cost. The degree can be completed in stages: certificate, associate degree and finally the bachelor’s degree. This means that you can improve your qualifications in increments over a four-year period. Many members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have benefited from PathwayConnect and have successfully matriculated to the degree programs.
Trevon Morris was among the first Pathway alumni and was the first to matriculate and complete a bachelor of science degree in computer science at the Brigham Young University-Idaho. This brave move has impacted his life tremendously. After completing the life skills course, Trevon said that he became debt free because he learned how to budget. Since enrolling in Pathway many years ago, his salary has increased, and he is now being considered for a promotion. Trevon said, “Pathway put me into BYU-I, where my skills have been enhanced tenfold . . . Life could not be better.” There are many others with similar success stories like Trevon and now everyone can have the same opportunity.
The tag line for PathwayConnect is, “More than just a path to a degree, It’s a start to a better way of life”. Enrolling in PathwayConnect offers many Jamaicans and other Caribbean nationals a chance to this better way of life.
