Sisters Strengthen and Serve
On social media and in person, the Relief Society General Presidency continued their work to strengthen families and individuals and serve God’s children throughout the world.
In March 2022, President Jean B. Bingham spoke about the 180th anniversary of the founding of the Relief Society. Today, she said, there are seven and a half million sisters relieving suffering, saving souls, and fulfilling the same purposes the Relief Society was founded on in 1842.
President Bingham and Sister Sharon Eubank, First Counselor in the Relief Society General Presidency and president of Latter-day Saint Charities, visited several Middle Eastern countries. In Cairo, Egypt, President Bingham said she was impressed with “the genuine love that the Saints had for one another.” President Bingham and Sister Eubank also visited a refugee camp in Kurdistan, where the Church has helped provide housing.
Sister Reyna I. Aburto, Second Counselor, visited Spain along with Sister Michelle D. Craig, First Counselor in the Young Women General Presidency. “The peace of God endures and transcends all that is evil in the world,” Sister Aburto said at a devotional for children and youth.
Via social media, the Relief Society General Presidency posted messages about childhood nutrition, well-being, and health, coordinating with the Church’s Welfare and Self-Reliance Services to get messages to parents about the benefits of hand washing, clean drinking water, healthy food choices, breastfeeding, vaccination, sanitation, and clinical visits.
The presidency has also encouraged sisters to share their feelings about what would motivate them to participate in Relief Society more fully and about how to make Relief Society more inclusive and supportive.
