All-Africa Service Day 2022

All-Africa Service Day has been a part of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for over 16 years. This event in West Africa is anticipated for its good works and community minded spirit.

The All-Africa Service Day activities are held annually on the third Saturday in the month of August. It provides members of the Church the opportunity to donate several thousand hours of service in various projects in their communities. Some of these projects were blood drives, neighborhood and school cleanings, paintings, and restorations.

Projects were completed in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Mali, Benin, Togo, Senegal, Ghana, Nigeria, Cote d’Ivoire and many other countries. Throughout the world, where the Church has a presence, these volunteers partner with government, religious and nonprofit organizations to support and improve the communities where they live.

Esther Grant from the Ministry of Health of Liberia, Drugs Reduction Unit, said “The program is a good initiative organized and sponsored by the Church. I wish other institutions could practice what this Church is involved in. It is a perfect project!”

Ambruse Nebo, the deputy administrator for the Liberia National Police Department, stated, “This program gives total recognition to the deaf community thereby rejuvenating the deaf community. The deaf community has been abandoned for a very long time, but with these kinds of projects, they can once more be proud to a Liberian and counted in society.”

In Nigeria, a blood drive was held. A friend in the community shared, “I first learnt about the project from my friend who is a member of the Church, I got more interested from the orientation I was given. This is my first time donating and I know it is for a good cause.”

In Owerri, Nigeria HRH Chief Ifiok Umanah Abaak of Abak Village said, “It is a very good thing to see churches show concern about the community they live in. It is very unusual. Thank you.”
