Why Your Teen Needs FSY

When youth leave FSY, they are different people than when they came.

The Lord is changing teens’ lives through FSY (For the Strength of Youth), a five-day conference for youth ages 14–18. Youth who have attended FSY say they have a stronger testimony of Jesus Christ and a renewed or increased desire to serve a mission, and they are better able to interact with other youth.1 So what can you and your teen expect from FSY? Here is a closer look at what it’s all about.

When teens arrive at FSY, they check in, meet their young adult counselors, and join their company. A company will have up to 24 teens, with two to three counselors.

While at FSY, teens have regular time each day to study the scriptures and make goals.

Smaller groups of young men or young women also have activities together.

Dances are a highlight of FSY, but there is also an alternate game room for teens who prefer that option.

One of my personal highlights at FSY was morning gospel study. I was always able to feel the Spirit, and it was the time most of my questions were answered.

At FSY, I learned that when you trust in the Lord, He carries you. Trusting in the Lord is like a shield from all the temptation and darkness in the world.

Teens have the option to prepare an act for the variety show at FSY. This is a fun way to get involved.

Emily Farris, an FSY counselor says, “When youth leave FSY, they are different people than when they came. They establish powerful gospel study habits, develop their testimony of their part in the plan of salvation, and grow closer to Jesus Christ. On top of all that, they create new friendships and support systems that may last a lifetime!”

It is amazing to watch the youth learn how to have fun while feeling the Spirit! FSY is the greatest place to learn about the gospel and practice making it the center focus of our lives.

Mallory Safsten, YSA counselor

FSY grants youth the opportunity to shut out the discouraging and distracting voices of the world and allows them to remember that they are in reality a child of God.
