A Prompting That Probably Saved His Life
Told to Sister Melanie Dustin (Liberia MLS missionary) as he was working with her to submit his mission papers.
Preface: On 26 December 2023 a fuel truck crashed in the small city in Lower Bong Country about 130 km from the capital, Monrovia. The tanker did not explode for over two hours after it tipped over.
About 30–40 min after the tanker in Totota had overturned, Saturday Quelleh had several friends that were encouraging him to get a container and go to the tanker and get some fuel. They viewed it as an opportunity to get something for free. He ran home to get a container and was headed back to the tanker when he heard someone yelling his name. He turned around but couldn’t see anyone. He started off again towards the tanker.
Again, he heard someone yelling his name and again he turned around but did not see anyone. This happened many times. About the eighth or ninth time he heard someone yelling his name and not seeing anyone, a thought came into his mind. He remembered being in the temple in the sealing room and seeing the mirrors repeat, just like he was hearing his name repeated. It reminded him of his temple covenants, and he decided not to go to the tanker and get fuel.
Approximately 30 minutes after that, the tanker exploded. He recognized at that moment that it had been the Spirit telling him not to go near the tanker. It reminded him that he was a temple-going, covenant-keeping member of the Church. His friends, who knows he wears garments, asked “Saturday, were you wearing your garments?” He replied “Yes!” Saturday and all of his friends recognized that he was prompted to stay away, and they also recognized that the prompting probably saved his life.
