The Church Is Here
Reykjavík, Iceland
The first missionaries of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints arrived in Iceland in 1851. In the 20th century, many members emigrated to other countries. Today, however, Church members in Iceland have come from various countries, and many native Icelanders returned to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and help recent converts lead the Church. Though few in number, they are a tight-knit community. The Church in Iceland has:
-
380 members (approximately)
-
4 branches (including one in Spanish)
-
1 FamilySearch center
A Community of Saints
The members in Iceland rely on each other. When Bettina Gudnason’s husband passed away, she found comfort in the family of Saints around her: “Members of the Church were always around me and with me. I know in my heart that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ know everything that is happening around us. They know us by name.”
