The De’Beauville Family: A Legacy of Love and Service

The De’Beauville family’s story, set in the heart of St. Lucia, is one of love, faith, and unwavering service. Clayton John De’Beauville and Justina Mumcy De’Beauville have celebrated over 36 years of marriage, raising their children with devotion and embracing the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their journey, from a chance meeting to a temple sealing, reflects a life of dedication and love for the Lord and their community.

Justina Mumcy De’Beauville was raised as an only child in a strong countryside community and earned the nickname “country girl” because of her weekly trips to town, where she sold produce at the city market. One fateful day, Clayton John De’Beauville, a city boy bus driver, picked her up, and they fell in love at first sight. A cherished memory, held dear by Sister De’Beauville, focused on a sweet gesture from Brother De’Beauville. He decided to purchase her entire daily produce, allowing them to spend more time together that day. It is still a mystery what he did with that abundance of vegetables. This act of kindness has been the foundation of their enduring love and affection.

Clayton and Justina married, starting a family that grew to include their children: Donald, Dior, D’Anne, and Denzel. Their love extended beyond their immediate family, which included their community. The De’Beauvilles built their first home in a remote area, away from power lines and running water, and they became stalwarts in their community. They represented love and charity, running the local store and helping people charge the batteries to run their televisions.

One day, Justina met two young missionaries in crisp white shirts and ties. Intrigued by their appearance and message, she invited them into her home and listened to their teachings. The message resonated with her, and in 2006, she was baptized into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Shortly afterward, her husband and daughters followed her example, embracing the gospel with open hearts.

The family became an integral part of the Castries Branch in St. Lucia. Justina’s service within the Church grew as she served in various leadership roles, including Relief Society district president in the Kingstown St. Vincent District. Her life has been a testament to selfless service, especially in sewing for others. She is now passionate about family history work and is excited to bring a portable family history center to St. Lucia.

For the last 16 years, Clayton served as the branch president, overseeing the growth of Church membership and facing the challenges of COVID-19 with dedication. Recently released from this role, he now serves as a counselor in the district presidency. His focus has been on building God’s kingdom within the Castries Branch, particularly nurturing the priesthood holders. He has had the opportunity to oversee multiple chapel projects and renovations as the Church membership has grown.

In September 2023, the De’Beauvilles made a dream trip to the Dominican Republic to be sealed in the temple. They also witnessed their youngest son’s endowment as he prepared to serve a mission to Côte d’Ivoire. This experience, considered one of the best days of their lives, marked a culmination of their devotion to the gospel and to each other. With a deep desire to continue their service, the De’Beauvilles hope to return to the temple as missionaries.

Their family’s journey is a testament to the transformative power of their love for the Savior, for each other, and their dedication to their community. The De’Beauvilles have made a lasting impact on the Church in St. Lucia, exemplifying the principles of love, faith, and service. They continue to inspire all who know them with their unwavering commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ.
