Lesson 41

“He Did Expound All Things unto Them”

3 Nephi 22–26

  • After quoting prophecies of Isaiah, Jesus commanded the people to “search these things diligently” (3 Nephi 23:1). What does it mean to search the scriptures instead of merely read them?

  • In his record, Mormon included only “the lesser part” of what Jesus taught the people (3 Nephi 26:8). How can we receive “the greater things”? (See 3 Nephi 26:9.)

  • Read 3 Nephi 26:19–21. How can we follow this example in our marriages, families, wards, and stakes?

Suggestion for Family Discussion

Explain that when Jesus was among the Nephites, He shared Malachi’s prophecy about the mission of Elijah (3 Nephi 25:1–6). This teaching is so important that it is found in all four standard works of the Church.

As a family, read the following scripture passages: Malachi 4:1–6; Luke 1:17; 3 Nephi 25:1–6; Doctrine and Covenants 2:1–3; and Joseph Smith—History 1:37–39. You may want to suggest that family members mark these passages in their scriptures.

Discuss how these passages relate to family history work and temple work. Make plans to work together to identify and submit deceased ancestors’ names for temple ordinances. As circumstances allow, make plans to serve together in the temple.
