Doctrinal Mastery: Assessment 1 Review
1 Nephi 3:7 through Mosiah 18:8–10
This doctrinal mastery assessment review is designed as a learning experience to help students review the 12 doctrinal mastery passages found in 1 Nephi through Mosiah. It will allow them to demonstrate understanding and application of the truths in these passages. It is also designed to help prepare students for the upcoming assessment (“Doctrinal Mastery: Assessment 1”).

Review Activity 2: Know the scripture references and key scripture phrases
Fill in the blank with the missing word or words from the key scripture phrases.

Review Activity 3: Apply the doctrine

A young man has an important decision to make that could greatly impact his future. He is nervous and unsure what choice to make.

A young woman’s parents are not supportive of her decision to keep the commandments of God. She wants to be obedient, but it seems too hard in her circumstances.

One of your friends is mocked by his classmates for living the gospel of Jesus Christ. You want to reassure him that it is worth it to remain faithful to his covenants.
Review Activity 4: Use the principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge
You have a friend who is questioning why some things she has recently been taught in school seem to contradict what God has taught through the scriptures and modern prophets.
Teach your friend about the following three principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge and how she could use them to turn to Heavenly Father for help with her concerns.

Apply the doctrine to real-life situations

Use one or more doctrinal mastery scripture passages to help someone who wants guidance for making important decisions in his or her life.

Choose one or more passages to help someone who feels that their circumstances make it difficult to keep the commandments of God.

Choose any of the doctrinal mastery passages and think of a situation where the truths taught in that passage could help a teenager in his or her life. If possible, think of real situations that you know of or that you have faced yourself.

Be prepared to share which of the doctrinal mastery passages has impacted you the most. What does that passage teach you about Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ?
Principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge
Review paragraphs 5–12 in the “Acquiring Spiritual Knowledge” section of the Doctrinal Mastery Core Document (2023). Ponder how you could use principles of acquiring spiritual knowledge to help someone overcome a challenge or concern he or she is facing.
