Author Index

How to Use the Author Index

This index is an alphabetical listing by author of the quotations used in chapter introductions and Supporting Statements. Each quotation under an author’s name is indexed by the statement from the Doctrinal Outline it supports and to the page or pages where the quotation is found. The subentries under each author’s name are listed in the order in which they appear in the manual. For example, quotations about baptism (chapter 15) follow quotations about revelation (chapter 2).

The table of contents can be used as a guide to finding a given statement from the Doctrinal Outline within the subentries under a particular author’s name.

The following is a sample entry:

The subentry tells us that three quotations from Elder McConkie were used to support the statement from the Doctrinal Outline, “A knowledge of the signs of the times can help us turn to the Lord and prepare ourselves for His Second Coming.” One quotation begins on page 95 and continues onto page 96, and two individual quotations are on page 96.

In the next sample entry, the section title Introduction and the number and title of the chapter have been substituted for a statement from the Doctrinal Outline to indicate that the author was quoted in the introduction to a chapter:
