“Ye Have Done It unto Me” (Matthew 25:40)
Jesus Christ spent His final days in Jerusalem teaching, serving, and showing love for others. He also taught how we can best express our love for Him. In Matthew 25, Jesus shared an unforgettable parable about the King (Jesus Christ, the Son of Man) who spoke to His servants at His Second Coming. In Jesus’s story, the King tells His followers:
For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?
Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
In these words of Christ we learn that we can express our love for God by loving and serving those around us. Our loving actions toward others can help us feel the joy and peace we seek from Jesus Christ.
Invitation: Serve with Greater Love
Show your love for someone in one of the ways Jesus taught in Matthew 25. What could you do today to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, visit the sick, or reach out to someone who may feel lonely or isolated? It can be something big or something small. If you’re not sure how to share your love, you can pray for guidance. God wants to help you show love to others.
