“Volunteer Opportunities,” Emergency Preparedness (2023)
Volunteer Opportunities
Introduction
There are many ways to be involved in your community, from training and certifications to helping others prepare. Here are a few ways to get started:
How Can I Be Involved?
JustServe: JustServe is a free, customizable service for volunteers and communities. Through JustServe, volunteers and organizations from all faiths and backgrounds can find and post projects. This allows volunteers to help in their communities, connects organizations with volunteers near them, and provides opportunities for communities to come together for causes they care about.
FEMA (US only): The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is a resource for citizens and emergency personnel to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. Through FEMA, you can prepare for disasters, sign up for emergency alerts, find volunteer opportunities, and get disaster assistance if qualified.
Emergency Response Volunteers: These volunteers from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints focus on cleanup after disasters. These volunteers are coordinated through local Church leaders. Access to disaster locations is controlled by local government officials who are responsible for public safety. Church leaders work with local government leaders to ensure they are working in accessible locations.
CERT (US only): The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) program educates members of the community about preparing for disasters and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, basic search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. This training allows CERT members to help their community when disasters occur.
See the FEMA CERT Training for training and additional resources.
