Learn about Love, Share, and Invite

The resurrected Lord directed His Apostles, “Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature” (Mark 16:15). The same divine commission is ours today. In the Doctrine and Covenants, the Savior invites us to “open [our] mouth[s] to declare my gospel” (Doctrine and Covenants 30:5).

Elder Gary E. Stevenson reminds us that “the Savior’s great commission can be accomplished through simple, easily understandable principles taught to each of us from childhood: love, share, and invite” (“Love, Share, Invite,” Liahona, May 2022, 85). These principles are cohesive and powerful ways you can share the gospel with people in normal and natural ways. No name badge or letter is required. No formal calling is needed.

Love: “Love for others is the eloquent expression of the second great commandment to love our neighbor; it shows the refining process of the Holy Spirit working within our own souls. By demonstrating Christ’s love to others, we may cause those who see our good works to ‘glorify [our] Father which is in heaven’ [Matthew 5:16]” (Gary E. Stevenson, “Love, Share, Invite,” 85).

Share: “We all share things with others. We do it often. We share what movies and food we like, funny things we see, places we visit, art we appreciate, quotes we’re inspired by. How might we simply add to the list of things we already share what we love about the gospel of Jesus Christ?” (Gary E. Stevenson, “Love, Share, Invite,” 86).

Invite: “There are hundreds of invitations we can extend to others. We can invite others to ‘come and see’ a sacrament service, a ward activity, an online video that explains the gospel of Jesus Christ. ‘Come and see’ can be an invitation to read the Book of Mormon or visit a new temple during its open house prior to its dedication” (Gary E. Stevenson, “Love, Share, Invite,” 86).

Pray for opportunities to share the gospel. Heavenly Father will guide you to know what people around you are ready for and what invitation to extend.

Don’t worry if someone rejects an invitation. “Your success does not depend on how others choose to respond to you, to your invitations, or to your sincere acts of kindness. … What the Lord wants is your own best effort—for you to ‘serve him with all your heart, might, mind and strength’ (Doctrine and Covenants 4:2; emphasis added)” (Preach My Gospel: A Guide to Sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ [2023], 13).

As you live your faith and follow spiritual promptings to share the gospel, you can experience the joy that comes from helping people come unto Christ every day. “Sharing the gospel kindles joy and hope in the souls of both giver and receiver. Truly, ‘how great shall be your joy’ [Doctrine and Covenants 10:15] as you share the gospel!” (Marcus B. Nash, “Hold Up Your Light,” Liahona, Nov. 2021, 71).
