“Healing in Stages,” Mental Health: General Principles
Accept that healing may come in stages.
When Jesus healed a blind man, the blind man first saw “men as trees, walking.” Jesus “put his hands again upon his eyes,” and “he was restored, and saw every man clearly” (Mark 8:24–25). When Jesus healed a woman who had an issue of blood (see Mark 5:25–34), it was after 12 years. These stories can remind us that healing—whether physical, emotional, or mental—can come in stages and may not happen quickly. Some healing will not occur until the Resurrection.
