My Calling as a Relief Society Teacher
Responsibilities
The Lord is grateful for your willingness to serve in His Church. Below is an overview of the responsibilities for your calling.
Purpose of Relief Society
Relief Society is a divinely instituted organization for all adult women in the Church. Relief Society helps God’s children prepare to return to His presence. The Prophet Joseph Smith taught that the purpose of Relief Society is to “save souls and relieve suffering”—by providing the Savior’s relief (see General Handbook, 9.1).
Relief Society Teachers
Teachers are called to help people strengthen their faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. Relief Society teachers support the presidency. The Relief Society presidency prayerfully selects messages to teach based on sisters’ needs (see 9.2.1.2).
Sunday Meetings
Relief Societies meet on the second and fourth Sundays with a purpose to increase faith in Jesus Christ, build unity, and strengthen families and homes. Meetings begin with prayer and include time for counseling together and gospel instruction and discussion based on recent conference talks (see 9.2.1.2).
Principles of Christlike Teaching
Teaching in the Savior’s way is a sacred trust and responsibility. When teaching the gospel, follow the example of the Savior, who is the Master Teacher. Relief Society teachers follow the principles in Teaching in the Savior’s Way and chapter 17 of the General Handbook (see 17.1).
Home-Centered Gospel Learning
When members learn and live the gospel at home, their conversion to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ deepens. Relief Society leaders encourage sisters to study the scriptures and the words of living prophets, individually and with their families (see 17.2).
