Hebrews 1–6
Overview
Under the pressure of various persecutions, many Jewish Christians were apparently withdrawing from the Church and returning to the relative safety of Jewish worship at the synagogue. Paul wanted to show these Jewish Christians that Jesus is greater than Moses and that His ministry brought a new covenant superior to the old covenant under the law of Moses. Paul taught that Jesus Christ descended from His heavenly throne to live as a mortal man on earth and perform an infinite Atonement for us. By encouraging the Saints to let go of unbelieving attitudes, Paul sought to help them return to the covenants they had made.
Prepare to Teach
The following information provides teachers with ideas of what may need to be prepared in advance for each lesson.
Hebrews 1–10
Lesson purpose: This lesson can help fortify students’ faith in the Savior as they learn of His power over all things by identifying and studying some of His titles and roles.

Student preparation: Invite students to look for names of Jesus Christ during their personal or family scripture study and to come to class prepared to share the names they found.

Videoconference teaching suggestion: Consider displaying a picture of Jesus Christ and using the chat feature to allow students to list the titles and roles of Christ that they discover in Hebrews. Students could also post the title or role they chose to study. This could help identify the title or role most students studied. Students could then share why they think that title or role was the most studied or why it might be meaningful to teenagers.
Hebrews 2–4
Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to increase students’ confidence that Jesus Christ can help them in times of need.

Student preparation: Invite students to review the doctrinal mastery passage Alma 7:11–13 and to come to class prepared to share why they feel this is a valuable passage to understand.

Content to display: The chart for students to fill out

Videoconference teaching suggestion: For the chart activity, consider using the whiteboard feature or an online spreadsheet to create the chart and share it with the class. Invite students to fill out the chart on the screen with what they find, in addition to completing it in their study journals.
Hebrews 3–4
Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help students overcome unbelief so they can receive the Savior’s promised blessings.

Student preparation: Invite students to think about reasons they believe in Jesus Christ and how they are blessed for believing in Him.

Videoconference teaching suggestion: When sharing the contextual information about the children of Israel, it might be helpful to share a screen with images of Moses and the children of Israel in the wilderness.
Hebrews 7–10
Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help strengthen students’ faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Redeemer by helping them understand ancient symbols in the law of Moses.
Note: This lesson addresses content that is not included in this week of pacing for Come, Follow Me. To provide opportunities to address doctrinal mastery and other relevant content in the next week of Come, Follow Me, this lesson was moved here. Students could study this lesson content during either week.

Student preparation: Invite students to bring an object to class and explain how it testifies of or reminds them of Jesus Christ. For example, a student could bring an eraser and explain that it reminds them of Jesus Christ because He can erase, or forgive, our sins.

Doctrinal Mastery Review 22
Lesson purpose: This lesson is intended to help students memorize some of the scripture references and key scripture phrases of the doctrinal mastery passages in the New Testament.

Student preparation: Invite students to talk with a family member or friend about how memorizing scriptures has inspired that family member or friend or helped them come closer to the Savior.

Materials: A piece of paper and a writing utensil for each student

Videoconference teaching suggestion: Consider allowing students to draw pictures using the annotate function. Students could take turns drawing clues and guessing the doctrinal mastery passage.
