Teacher Development Guide

This development guide provides suggestions for coordinators and program administrators to help seminary teachers complete the Seminary Curriculum Training and prepare for additional development. It is designed to help teachers learn incrementally, which can help them to not feel overwhelmed.

Consider creating a plan to help new teachers complete the trainings and to help other teachers as needed. This could be approached in larger monthly inservice meetings or adapted to the needs of each individual teacher. As you consider the timing of these suggestions, it is important that teachers do not feel pressured to move through each step too quickly. Look for ways to establish an appropriate pace to build the capability of your teachers.

Before They Begin Teaching

  • Invite teachers to read and follow the instructions in the “Quick Start Guide.”

  • Help them know how to take attendance.

Step 1

  • Invite teachers to adopt the seminary curriculum by carefully following the lessons as outlined.

  • Schedule a time to discuss any questions they may have about the curriculum and to assess how they are doing.

Step 2

  • Invite them to complete the “Life Preparation Lessons Training.”

  • Schedule a time to discuss any questions they may have about how to teach Life Preparation lessons.

Step 3

  • Invite them to complete the “Doctrinal Mastery Training.”

  • Schedule a time to discuss any questions they may have about how to help students achieve doctrinal mastery.

Step 4

  • Invite them to complete the “Assessment Training.”

  • Schedule a time to discuss any questions they may have about the Assess Your Learning lessons or about how to help students receive course credit for the assessment.

Step 5

  • Invite them to complete the “Adopting and Adapting Seminary Curriculum Training.” Now that teachers have been introduced to the different lessons in the curriculum and have had experience adopting them, teachers may be more capable to appropriately adapt the curriculum.

  • Schedule a time to discuss any questions they may have about how to adopt and then appropriately adapt the seminary curriculum.

Step 6

  • Prepare a plan for additional teacher development as you measure, define, train, and assess their abilities.
