Share Church Resources
Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints have four divinely appointed responsibilities associated with the work of salvation and exaltation that, when acted upon, extend the love of God to all of His children throughout the world (see General Handbook: Serving in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1.2, Gospel Library).
In their efforts to bless lives, to “mourn with those that mourn,” and to “comfort those that stand in need of comfort” (Mosiah 18:9), many members give generously of their time, talents, and personal resources. Many governments and other charitable organizations also offer valuable assistance. As we connect with communities and individuals, the Church can also contribute with the many opportunities and resources it has. These include learning how to apply self-reliance principles, connecting families through family history, improving marriages, strengthening parents, and helping all live a full and abundant life.
The primary focus of providing these services is to minister to individual needs. Although participants may understand that all our programs are faith-based, there should be no expectation for those being served to learn more about the gospel of Jesus Christ. As members act in the spirit of Christlike love, many will feel their love and feel the Spirit.
Under the direction of local leaders, Church-owned buildings maybe used, but many classes are not limited to a physical structure and can be offered virtually. There are countless ways of offering help to the community. For example, local leaders might choose to do one or more of the following:
-
Offer published Church resources, such as self-reliance classes, EnglishConnect, BYU–Pathway Worldwide, seminary, institute, FamilySearch, and more, to anyone in the community.
-
Focus on welcoming immigrants or refugees.
-
Suggest that young adults provide help to the community from their gathering places.
