On Beginning an Eternal Relationship

My yard
a barren wasteland
overnight burst into roses
roses and roses!

But rushing
to consume their radiant beauty
clothes snag
fingers prick
petals tear.

Slowly now
with care
I am discovering
the art of raising roses.
