Forgotten Sundays
For the first time in eight years,
my father sat by my side
in church last Sunday.
As he stroked my four-year-old sister’s hair
and gently squeezed my hand,
memories blurred my eyes
and trickled down my hot cheeks.
I didn’t wipe them away.
