“This Is Jesus,” New Era, Apr. 1990, 10–11
In Tune:
This Is Jesus
Slowly, with feeling
1. They knelt at his feet in mockery.
They smote him with a rod.
They gave to him a crown of thorns,
denied the Son of God.
2. I marvel how courageously
He hung upon the Cross
to take on him the sins of the world,
to pay the awful cost.
And “This, this is Jesus, King of the Jews!”
Upon his cross they wrote.
They parted all his raiment too,
cast lots upon his coat.
3. Between transgressors he was hung,
was crucified with thieves.
The multitude said, “Save Thyself!”
And then, we will believe.
And yet, after hanging on the cross
and all that he went through,
The one thing he said was “Father forgive them
For they know not what they do.”
