Called to Serve
Three new members of the First Quorum of the Seventy were announced in October general conference.
A new second counselor in the Young Women General Presidency was also called.
During the Saturday morning session of the semiannual general conference on October 1, 1994, President Howard W. Hunter was sustained as the 14th president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In addition, President Gordon B. Hinckley and President Thomas S. Monson were sustained as his first and second counselors. President Boyd K. Packer was sustained as acting president of the Council of the Twelve Apostles.
Three new members of the First Quorum of the Seventy were announced. They are Elder Dennis B. Neuenschwander, Elder Andrew Wayne Peterson, and Elder Cecil Osborn Samuelson Jr.
One member of the First Quorum of the Seventy, Elder Hartman Rector Jr., was given emeritus status. Seven members of the Second Quorum of the Seventy were released. They are Albert Choules Jr., Lloyd P. George, Malcolm S. Jeppsen, Richard P. Lindsay, Merlin R. Lybbert, Gerald E. Melchin, and Horacio A. Tenorio.
The Sunday School General Presidency was reorganized with Elder Charles Didier serving as president, Elder J Ballard Washburn as first counselor, and Elder F. Burton Howard as second counselor.
A new Primary General Presidency was organized. Called were President Patricia Peterson Pinegar, who had been serving as second counselor in the Young Women General Presidency; Anne Goalen Wirthlin, first counselor; and Susan Carol Lillywhite Warner, second counselor.
A new second counselor in the Young Women General Presidency, Bonnie Dansie Parkin, was also called.
First Quorum of the Seventy
Elder Dennis B. Neuenschwander, 55, from Salt Lake City, had served in the Second Quorum of the Seventy since April 6, 1991. He and his wife, LeAnn Clement Neuenschwander, have four children.
Elder Andrew Wayne Peterson, 47, a Salt Lake City dentist, is a native of San Francisco. He and his wife, Christine Ann Swensen Peterson, are the parents of eight children.
Elder Cecil Osborn Samuelson Jr., 53, is a physician from Salt Lake City. He was a vice president at the University of Utah, a professor, and dean of the School of Medicine. He and his wife, Sharon Giauque Samuelson, have five children.
Young Women
Sister Bonnie Dansie Parkin, from Salt Lake City, is a native of Murray, Utah, and was raised in nearby Herriman. She replaces Sister Pinegar as second counselor. She and her husband, James L. Parkin, have four children.
