“I Hold His Book,” New Era, June 1995, 67
Special Issue:
The Scriptures—Written for You
I Hold His Book
I hold His book
In trembling hands.
The words are blurred
By the tears in my eyes.
I’ve traveled so far
Without His light to guide me.
But now, holding his book,
I realize
His light was before me always.
I was blinded by my own foolishness.
I had to experience it all alone.
It is true.
I know that now.
For He left the ninety and nine
To seek me out
Among the lost and forgotten of the world.
He led me from darkness
Back to the safety of the fold.
His blood was shed for me
And now I can, in part, repay the debt.
I’ll teach those still lost and wandering,
And crying in loneliness
As I once did
That, in time,
We may all join in singing the praises
of God.
