Called to Serve

During the Saturday morning session of the semiannual general conference on October 4, 1997, a new Young Women general presidency and two new counselors in the Young Men general presidency were sustained.

Three members of the First Quorum of the Seventy, Elders J. Richard Clarke, Dean L. Larsen, and Robert E. Wells, were given emeritus status. Seven members of the Second Quorum of the Seventy were released. They are Lino Alvarez, C. Max Caldwell, John E. Fowler, Augusto A. Lim, V. Dallas Merrell, F. David Stanley, and Kwok Yuen Tai.

Two new counselors were called to serve in the Sunday School general presidency, Elders Glenn L. Pace and Neil L. Andersen. Two new Area Authority Seventies, Elder John A. Grinceri and Elder David W. Eka, were also sustained.

Young Men

Two new counselors to Elder Jack H Goaslind, Young Men general president, were announced in October general conference. Elder Dellenbach, the new first counselor, and Elder Hammond, the new second counselor, are members of the First Quorum of the Seventy.

Elder Robert K. Dellenbach, 60, previously served as the second counselor in the Young Men general presidency and is first counselor in the Utah North Area Presidency. He and his wife, Mary Jayne Broadbent Dellenbach, have three children.

Elder F. Melvin Hammond, 63, is first counselor in the North America Northwest Area Presidency. He and his wife, Bonnie Sellers Hammond, are the parents of six children.

Young Women

A new Young Women general presidency was also organized with Sister Margaret D. Nadauld as president, Sister Carol B. Thomas as first counselor, and Sister Sharon G. Larsen as second counselor.

Sister Nadauld (center) is a native of Manti, Utah. She and her husband, Stephen D. Nadauld, are the parents of seven children.

Sister Thomas (left) previously served as the second counselor in the Young Women general presidency. A native of Salt Lake City, Sister Thomas and her husband, D. Ray Thomas, have seven children.

Sister Larsen is a native of Glenwood, Alberta, Canada. She and her husband, Ralph T. Larsen, have two children.
